Sea Turtle Nesting

No creature is more stringently protected than the sea turtles that visit the beaches on Hutchinson Island. Watching these beautiful animals come ashore to lay their eggs, guided by the light of the moon, is an experience unlike any other.

Designated sections of the Jensen Sea Turtle Beach are barricaded off in order to protect the nests of the sea turtles. The three species found on this beach are the loggerhead, leatherback turtle and green sea turtle. Loggerhead nests are the most common type found on this and adjacent beaches

FP&L Turtle Walks are conducted Friday and Saturday during June and July. These walks are extremely popular and limited by permit to 50 people. Once a turtle is sighted, the group is taken to the beach to watch her lay her eggs.

Reservations are are required and begin May 1. The reservation number is 1-800-334-5483.
